Grand in your Hand lottery news

Brewer launches lottery beer

June 11, 2010

A Stroud brewer has launched a new beer named in honour of Cotswold Care Hospice’s new weekly lottery.

Grand in your Hand will offer a top prize of £1,000 every week. All proceeds raised will support the hospice.

Now, thanks to Stroud Brewery, people can order a pint of Grand in your Hand summer ale.

Greg Pilley, owner of Stroud Brewery, said he didn’t hesitate when Cotswold Care Hospice asked him to support the new lottery.
“This is a great opportunity for Cotswold Care Hospice to raise its profile and hopefully attract more supporters for its new lottery.

Greg praised head brewer Ian Thorne for creating Grand in your Hand. It is a summer ale made with American hops. “There are always people working behind the scene and Ian is one of those people. Once again he has come up with a great new beer.”

Cotswold Care Hospice receives less than 10 per cent of its funding from the NHS. The new Grand in your Hand lottery will be an important campaign to raise needed funds.  All of its services are provided free of charge.

The first draw for Grand in your Hand will be September 10. People can register online at www.grandinyourhand.org.uk

Peter Rowbottom, head of fundraising, said: “We are thrilled that Stroud Brewery has named a beer in our honour. Not only is this about raising the profile of the hospice but it is also about supporting local businesses.”

Pubs carrying Grand in your Hand are also supporting the cause by handing out leaflets about the charity and wearing Grand T-shirts.

The new beer was launched at the Crown & Sceptre in Horns Cross Road in Stroud. Landlord Rodda Thomas said: “We will be encouraging our regulars to sign up and promote such a good cause.”
